Where to start? Nike + Just do it have for so long set the bar for how a brand should be (for better or worse) in our industry. From every ad we see to the origins of Nike itself, to the iconic tagline, have defined and cajoled the raw emotions of what it means to be human. As you will see from my ad examples, Nike and its agency partner Wieden & Kennedy have put powerful emotions at the core of all its advertising. The depiction of the best and worst of us is put somberly, joyfully, steadfast, and powerful all branded Nike. Certainly, has not been without its own controversy that spans human rights and child labor claims, controversial endorsements of athletes like Tiger Woods and Lance Armstrong, to the iconic Michael Jordan work, Nike+, and most recently their FIFA soccer ads. Definitely the power of a lot of these ads lie in the narrative and the music but it takes a truly good Creative Director and agency as well as client to sign off of such simple yet powerful ads that let imagery, and the raw emotion of competition and drive to succeed to thump through. I don’t understand why more brands don’t understand this. More is less. As good ole Bill Bernbach says, “Let 1 ad to the work of 10.” In Nike terms: “Just do it.”

Great, hilarious video on the “west coast ghetto Asian”. They take themselves wayyyy too seriously, hopefully they can watch this vid and LIGHTEN UP a bit.
Straight from ma home turf – the cool Stick Monster Lab group (a tight knit group of motion graphic specialists, artists, designers, etc) from Korea have done a series of designs for Nike Sportswear. Check out the resulting video below it rocks. Why not take that and actually make it into an online soccer game?
P.S. You guys need a better web host i keep getting “daily bandwidth exceeded” from your site!
WOW. Fucking genius. Absolutely. This guy remade the original NES Super Mario Bros. to play with classic arcade characters. World Famous says:
Crossover is a re-do of the original Mario Brothers video game (I should say, the non-Donky-Kong one), with one large difference – your choice of character. You can be the original Mario, Mega Man from Mega Man, Samus from Metroid, Link from Zelda, Bill R. from Contra, or Simon from Castlevania! Each of them has their own moves, power ups, and reactions to gameplay. A MUST PLAY.

And while i’m talking about Apple i thought i would post this priceless video. Great stuff John, this is why we love ya.

There has been much debate swirling around about why Apple has banned Adobe’s Flash from it’s mobile platforms. These topics range from Flash being outdated based on x86 instead of ARM to a threat on Apple’s iTunes business model, to not wanting to be the best orgasm-in-a-pocket mobile porn device. All you have to do is Google “Apple and Adobe” or “Apple and Flash” and you’ll get more articles than you could want.
SO i’m not going to talk about that. Instead, i’ll let the man himself talk about it.
Today on Apple.com Steve Jobs himself addressed the issue with Adobe. Of course he doesn’t address conjecture like the porn, or how Adobe basically ditched Apple back when it was in danger and didn’t come out with a Mac Intel native CS until recently…but yeah. Apple has the upper hand here – and honestly i don’t fault Apple at all for their choice. The fact that Steve himself has stated that while they (Apple) will continue to keep their proprietary technology proprietary, when it comes to the web they’re 100% behind web / open standards. That in itself was worth reading it.
